Underground water supply and drainage networks, industrial pressure pipelines, and long-distance gas transmission lines are confined spaces with complex environments, making manual in well inspections high risk and prone to numerous blind spots. As a core tool for pipeline defect diagnosis, the visual imaging system of pipeline crawling robots directly determines the reliability of inspection results. The Kaimorui CM8410UE mini zoom module, paired with the CM2004H 4K control board, delivers an integrated visual solution custom designed for pipeline crawling robots, addressing industry specific challenges such as low light, tight spaces, and unstable signals, and providing stable, high definition imagery to support pipeline defect detection.

I.Low-light 4K ultra-high-definition imaging captures subtle pathological features of the vessel wall.

The internal lighting conditions within pipelines are extremely poor, with localized reflections and overlapping shadows, making even minute cracks, corrosion pits, and weld defects overlooked. The CM8410UE is equipped with an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, delivering 4K video at 30 fps to faithfully reproduce the true texture of pipe walls. Its image processor boasts exceptional low-light performance, with a minimum color sensitivity of 0.01 lux and 0.001 lux in monochrome mode, complemented by 120 dB wide dynamic range and advanced 2D/3D intelligent noise reduction algorithms. As the pipeline inspection robot traverses sections of alternating light and shadow, the footage remains free of overexposure or complete blackouts, ensuring that subtle damage—such as surface defects, scale buildup, or misalignment—is captured in full detail, providing precise visual data for subsequent pipeline network assessments.

II.10 Empowered by optical zoom, long-distance pipeline inspection is carried out efficiently.

Pipeline conditions vary widely, ranging from short distance inspection shaft sections to hundreds of meters of narrow, deeply buried pipelines. Frequent starts and stops, as well as repeated advances and retreats, can significantly reduce the efficiency of pipeline‑crawling robot inspections. The CM8410UE is equipped with a 10× optical zoom, offering a focal length of 5.76–46 mm and a maximum wide angle field of view of 57°. The robot can first use wide angle mode to quickly scan the overall pipeline condition; once suspected defect areas are identified, it can optically zoom in to magnify the target, allowing clear visualization of millimeter scale damage without moving the unit. This zoom capability minimizes back-and-forth movements, shortens the duration of each downhole operation, and enhances the efficiency of endoscopic inspections along long pipelines.

III.CM2004H Visual Control Hub, ensuring stable transmission of scheduling system signals.

The CM2004H is a 4K drive control board designed to interface with the CM series camera modules. Serving as the visual hub of pipeline crawling robots, it connects via an ultra thin coaxial cable to the CM8410UE module and automatically recognizes video signals at multiple resolutions—720P, 1080P, and 2160P—enabling plug and play operation. The board features onboard dual RS485 ports, RS232- TTL, I/O interfaces, and multi channel button inputs, supporting mainstream protocols such as SONY VISCA, PELCO P, and PELCO-D. Commands sent from the robot’s host PC allow remote control of lens zoom, focus, and preset position recall. Its unique power loss memory function is especially well suited for underground operations: when a pipeline crawling robot in a deep well experiences a brief power outage and restarts, it can automatically restore the lens settings and image state that existed prior to the interruption, eliminating the need for re calibration and ensuring uninterrupted inspection workflows.

IV.Compact, low-power hardware design, optimized for the confined spaces of robotic platforms.

In pipeline inspection robots, every cubic millimeter of internal space is precious, and payload weight and power consumption directly impact both endurance and passage capability. The CM8410UE core module weighs just 101 g, with total system power consumption below 4 W; its compact form factor allows easy integration into tight robot housings. The CM2004H control board is ultra thin and highly compact, with a thickness of only 10 mm, mounting holes as small as 2 mm, and straightforward wiring. The complete vision suite supports an extended operating temperature range of –25°C to 60°C, ensuring robust performance in harsh downhole conditions characterized by high humidity and significant thermal fluctuations. Its multi protocol compatibility enables seamless connectivity with control systems for various pipeline inspection robot models, significantly reducing integration complexity.
