Many beginners new to the security industry are confused about the installation and cabling of network cameras. This work can be challenging especially for those without prior experience with computer network systems, while people who have worked on computer networks will find it relatively easy. Below, Kaimorui shares some practical cabling tips for network cameras.

Cabling Tips for Network Cameras

  1. Network camera cabling uses network cables, power cords, optical fibers and switches. First, calculate and estimate the required cable length. Once a network cable is cut short, splicing extra cable will cause signal attenuation and degrade signal quality.
  2. Make full use of existing network cable infrastructure inside and outside the building for camera installation. Inspect the surveillance site first, select the optimal mounting position, then run a network cable from this position to the nearest network access point.
  3. In environments with strong power circuits, ensure the camera is electrically isolated from the ground to prevent electromagnetic interference.
  4. If the surveillance network camera is not an integrated infrared model, avoid opening the lens cover when moving or installing the camera.

That wraps up our cabling tips for network cameras. The transmission range of a network camera is within a 100-meter radius. You can install a switch midway. Multiple network cameras can transmit signals centrally to the monitoring room via network switches.
