The SDI interface is an acronym for serial digital interface, and is a digital video interface standard developed by the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) organization. The serial interface is an interface that sequentially transmits each bit of a data word and corresponding data through a single channel. Because the data rate of the serial digital signal is very high, it must be processed before transmission. It is a digital baseband signal. The SMPTE organization officially released the 6G-SDI and 12G-SDI of the serial data interface in 2015. 6G-SDI is oriented to 2160p30 applications, corresponding to the refresh of 30 frames per second. And 12G-SDI is oriented to 2160p60 (commonly known as true 4K) applications, which corresponds to a refresh of 60 frames per second.
4K UHD baseband signal application scenarios, 4k source production process:
When recording 4K programs in the film industry and broadcasting stations, most of them use professional 4K high-definition camera and editing systems. At present, most high-definition 4K professional cameras on the market use 4-channel BNC to simultaneously transmit 12G SDI HD signals, which belong to 4x 3G-SDI. Parallel mode, such as SONYPMW-F55 4K cameras currently use this digital video interface. Currently it is 4K high-definition video. I have tried a 60-meter high-quality cable in the broadcast and it can still meet the transmission. The 3G SDI signal all the way to 60 meters is close to the limit, otherwise the image quality will be problematic.
