Cannot Find Photos/Videos After Capture? Follow These 4 Steps
Source:Shenzhen Kai Mo Rui Electronic Technology Co. LTD2026-09-04
Applicable Scenario
When you use Edge Browser in Internet Explorer Mode to access a camera or monitoring web page. After clicking photo‑capture or video‑recording, you cannot locate the output files on drive C, E or F, and no error message pops up.
Root Cause
The photo‑and‑video plugin on the web page runs under the Internet Security Zone, where Protected Mode is enabled. Protected Mode restricts the plugin to low‑privilege operation. Low‑privilege programs lack permissions to write files to local storage. As a result, files are never saved, and no system alert is triggered.
Solution (Modify One Registry Value)
1.Open Registry Editor Press the Win + R keys to launch the Run dialog. Enterregedit and press Enter.2.Navigate to the target registry path In the left pane of Registry Editor, expand folders in sequence:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER → SOFTWARE → Microsoft → Windows → CurrentVersion → Internet Settings → Zones → 33.Change value 2500 to 3 Locate the entry namedNote: The final item 3 stands for the Internet security zone.
2500 on the right panel. Double‑click it, change the Value data from 0 to 3, click OK and close Registry Editor.4.Fully restart Edge and retest Close all Edge windows. Open Task Manager and verify that noValue data: 0 → revise to → 3
msedge.exe processes remain running. Relaunch your web page. Capture photos or record videos; files will be saved to your configured local path, e.g. F:\New folder (2).Revert to Original Settings (For Security Best Practice)
When you only access internal cameras without surfing public websites, change the value back to 0 to re‑enable Protected Mode for better security.
⚠ Important Notes
- Value = 0: Protected Mode enabled. Plugins run with low privilege, file saving function disabled.
- Value = 3: Protected Mode disabled. Local file saving works, yet risks rise when visiting untrusted public websites.
Best practice: Set to 3 only when you need photo/video capture, revert to 0 once finished.
