The tower crane monitoring system is the short‑form for the full‑process safety supervision and management system of tower cranes. Throughout the life cycle of construction tower cranes — from model selection to complete dismantling, this integrated monitoring system adopts information‑based means to conduct safety filing management of tower cranes, design and construction of tower foundations and attachments, whole‑process monitoring and recording of tower crane operations, anti‑overturning control during tower crane installation and dismantling, as well as multi‑crane anti‑collision management. Composed of embedded hardware devices and professional design‑analysis management software, the system realizes full‑life‑cycle monitoring for tower cranes so as to achieve the fundamental goal of work safety. Today, the editor from Kaimorui will introduce the usage and management of the system.

Usage and Management of the Tower Crane Monitoring System

  1. Before installing tower‑crane monitoring equipment, entities shall obtain identification tags (RFID electronic tag codes) for filing the installed tower‑crane safety monitoring devices, and deploy unified data receivers. The “one machine, one card, one tag” mechanism enables systematic correlation among construction projects, property‑owning entities, tower cranes, safety monitoring equipment and real‑time operating parameters of tower cranes. It also guarantees the uniformity, compatibility and accuracy of data uploaded by different safety monitoring devices.
  2. If replacement of pre‑installed tower‑crane safety monitoring equipment is required, the property‑owning entity shall submit a replacement application via the construction engineering safety supervision and management platform. New filing procedures can only be completed upon approval from the local construction safety supervision authority.
  3. All entities shall take the alarms, records and analytical indicators generated by the tower crane monitoring system as guidelines for tower‑crane work‑safety management. Tower‑crane safety assurance shall be implemented in compliance with national codes of practice and operating procedures. Any tower crane failing to meet relevant safety‑technical requirements specified in codes and regulations shall be immediately taken out of service to eliminate potential safety hazards in a timely manner.
  4. Upon receiving alarm prompts from tower‑crane monitoring devices, tower crane operators shall operate the equipment with caution. When limit values are reached, operators shall steer toward the safe direction and refrain from illegal operations.

That concludes the relevant introduction. Tower‑crane collapse accidents have occurred repeatedly in recent years, and low operating efficiency of tower cranes has also posed a major headache for practitioners. The tower crane monitoring system is a new product developed to tackle these problems.
