Applications of Wide Dynamic Range

Wide dynamic range, abbreviated as WDR, is an important image quality technology for surveillance cameras, primarily designed to solve the problem of unclear images when strong and weak light coexist.
For example, in scenarios such as backlight shooting, strong light outside windows, direct car headlights, or indoor bright lights contrasting with dark corners, ordinary cameras easily produce overexposed bright areas and completely dark shadows. Cameras with WDR can use algorithms or hardware processing to handle both bright and dark details simultaneously, preventing bright areas from being glaring and dark areas from being pitch black, resulting in a clear and balanced overall image.
Common types include digital wide dynamic range (D-WDR) and true wide dynamic range (WDR/120dB), with the latter being more effective and suitable for complex high-light environments. When combined with infrared night vision and ICR switching, surveillance devices can maintain stable and clear imaging under various lighting conditions, such as backlight during the day or total darkness at night.
