Night vision technology is a photoelectric technology that enables nighttime observation via photoelectric imaging devices, split into low-light night vision and infrared night vision.Low-light night vision technology, also known as image intensification technology, uses night vision goggles fitted with image intensifier tubes to amplify faint target images illuminated by night skylight for visual observation.
The "dual spectrums" refer to low-light spectrum and infrared spectrum. By leveraging these two imaging principles, dual-spectrum devices can detect concealed objects invisible to the naked eye day and night, as well as targets hidden underneath buildings.
Infrared night vision technology falls into two categories: active infrared night vision and passive infrared night vision.
- Active infrared night vision: It actively emits infrared light and captures infrared rays reflected off targets for observation; the corresponding device is an active infrared night vision scope.
- Passive infrared night vision: It detects targets by capturing inherent infrared radiation emitted by objects. Targets are identified based on temperature differences or thermal radiation gaps between targets and backgrounds, or between different sections of the same target.
Dual-spectrum fusion devices integrate low-light imaging and infrared thermal imaging. These two spectrums cover the mainstream technical categories of ranging systems available today.
